COVID-19 has made many changes to our everyday life. We know that there is a lot of uncertainty during this time, and we are all concerned about our health. Luckily, there are several ways that we can take charge and help protect ourselves from sickness.

WASH YOUR HANDS

We know it is extremely important to wash our hands often to avoid contracting the virus, as well as spreading it to others. You should also always aim to wash your hands prior to brushing or flossing to lessen the amount of bacteria entering your mouth.

BRUSH & FLOSS

Brushing for two minutes, at least twice a day, and flossing is always a priority when considering your oral and overall health. During times of sickness, the level of importance rises. Good oral hygiene is the first step to preventing and removing unwanted bacteria in your mouth. Rinsing with mouthwash or salt-water is also a great way to keep your mouth healthy.

HYDRATE & EAT HEALTHY

Your health and susceptibility to sickness are directly related to your diet. During this time, it is especially crucial to keep hydrated and choose healthier foods. Your teeth and body will thank you! Not only will you lower your chances of sickness, you will lower your risk for cavities!

KEEP YOUR TOOTHBRUSH CLEAN

Viruses can stay on all surfaces of your toothbrush. A damp toothbrush is also a breeding ground for bacteria. Be sure to clean your brush on a regular basis by soaking it in mouthwash or hydrogen peroxide, and keeping it dry after use. You should change out your brush every three months, and immediately after recovering from any sickness.

AVOID ERs/URGENT CARES

To limit the amount of patients in emergency rooms and urgent cares, please contact us in the case of a dental emergency. We can help you with many situations over the phone until you are able to visit our clinic. You may also find relief from over-the-counter pain medications, rinsing with warm saltwater and oral gels. Pharmacies may also have temporary filling material and denture repair kits.

While COVID-19 cannot be prevented by good oral hygiene, taking these steps will reduce dental diseases and positively influence your overall health. Our clinic is in the process of returning to normal operations under the State’s guidelines. Please call us to schedule an appointment. We look forward to seeing you soon! Stay safe and healthy!
